There is so much to see at Wildwood. I highly recommend the underwater viewing tank where we watched a tiny trout fight the current and go nowhere fast. Reminds me of how I feel when I am jogging on a treadmill.
Easier hike but the smaller trail to the upper falls was a bit of a challenge for a novice hiker like myself. The weather was perfect and the mist coming off the falls was lovely in the afternoon sun.
Everything that is worth doing takes effort. Case in point: Hiking from Knight’s park to the top of Cascade head trail. You can drive in for an easy hike to the top OR you can hike from the bottom through a wonderful old growth forest and exert some real effort going up the side of the bluff. It is worth it. The cool winds and the unbelievable view at the top are the reward.
Easily the best view in Portland. I am constantly amazed by the beauty that we are witness to living in the Northwest.
Pittock Mansion is a Portland historical site but I’ve lived here for 20 years this is my first visit. Another glorious day for a hike, breezy but warm.
July 2010:
This was truly a perfect hiking day. Sunny and cool for a morning of fresh air.
